SINGAPORE: Two Memoranda of Understanding on Cooperation (MOU) in legal education between local universities and universities from Myanmar will be signed this week.

The signing of the MOU will be witnessed by Senior Minister of State for Law and Education Indranee Rajah during her visit to Myanmar from Tuesday to Thursday.

The National University of Singapore’s Faculty of Law and the Singapore Management University’s School of Law will sign an MOU with the University of Yangon’s Department of Law.

The two local universities will sign another MOU with the University of Mandalay’s Department of Law.

The Ministry of Law (MinLaw) said the MOU aim to promote cooperation in legal education between the universities.

MinLaw said key areas of cooperation will include faculty exchanges, study visits, curriculum planning and design, cooperation in legal education pedagogy, and enhancement of legal research and development resources.

During the visit, Ms Indranee will meet various Myanmar leaders, including Union Education Minister Dr Khin Sann Yi, Chief Justice of the Union U Tun Tun Oo, Union Attorney General Dr Tun Shin, Presidential Senior Legal Adviser U Sit Aye, and Presidential Legal Advisers Daw Khin Myon Myint and U Nyan Naing Win.

Ms Indranee will be joined by the deans of the law faculties of NUS and SMU, and other senior officials from MinLaw.
