Singapore: Ince & Co Add Disputes Lawyer

Nicholas Lum has joined Ince & Co’s Singapore team as a partner in the firm’s Shipping and International Trade practice group, the law firm announced today.

Lum joins from Oon & Bazul LLP where he was a partner in their dispute resolution group.

As a dispute resolution lawyer Lum focuses on international trade and commodities, shipping and shipbuilding and general commercial disputes. Nick has extensive experience in China, having previously worked for a global law firm in its Shanghai office. He will head up Ince & Co’s China practice in the Singapore office and will divide his time between the Singapore and Shanghai offices.

He  has been recognised as a leading lawyer in various legal publications, including Legal 500 Asia Pacific, AsiaLaw Profiles and Benchmark Asia-Pacific.

John Simpson, Managing Partner of Ince & Co Singapore, said: “Nick is a highly respected dispute resolution lawyer with an impressive track record. His background and expertise are an excellent addition to our Shipping and International Trade Group in Asia.”

Nick’s keen understanding and knowledge of Chinese culture, his Mandarin language skills and the connections he has built up with individuals, entities and businesses across China makes him a great asset to Chinese clients with interests in Singapore. Furthermore, his technical expertise will make him a valued new member of our existing team of talented litigators.”

Speaking on his appointment, Lum  said: “I’m delighted to join Ince & Co Singapore and am proud to be able to bring my expertise to one of the region’s pre-eminent shipping and trade practices. I am impressed by Ince & Co’s success in Asia, which is underpinned by its entrepreneurial culture and forward-thinking attitude towards providing effective and commercial legal advice for its clients.

A key part of my practice involves advising Chinese companies and principals, particularly on the international trade front, on issues relating to international arbitration and complex cross-border litigation, and the extensive network of Ince & Co, both regionally and globally, dovetails with that perfectly.

I very much look forward to playing my part in building on the firm’s existing offering to clients.”

Lum  appointment continues a successful period of expansion for the firm. In October, the Ince Law Alliance in Singapore announced it had hired lawyers Felicia Tan and Moses Lin to bolster its commercial litigation and arbitration team.
