Mea Culpa AALE… we believed a press release sent out by a firm opening a new office in Singapore.
Regular readers will have seen our piece about law firm Walkers opening their new office in Singapore. In their press release they stated that they will be the only firm in Singapore to offer both local Cayman Islands and BVI advice. Naively we took their word for gospel.
today we’ve been contacted by the Singapore office of international offshore firm Conyers Dill & Pearman (with offices also in Anguilla
Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Mauritius, Dubai, Hong Kong, London ,Moscow and São Paulo) who have set the record straight and informed us that they have been providing advice on the laws of Cayman and BVI from its Singapore office for well over seven years since they opened there 2001.
They write:
We are proud of our reputation as offshore leader and as our Singapore office continues to dominate the ASEAN region as the offshore law firm of choice, we look forward to continued growth following several key hires in 2008.
Our apologies to Conyers Dill & Pearman. We’d also like to say to Walkers two things.. "truth in advertising" or.. if you thought you were going to be the only people in Singapore providing this type of advice we suggest who ever researched the Singapore market for you look for a new job.
