Additional Responsibilities Include:
- Conduct efficient, cost-effective, in-depth legal and business research to gather information on various legal and business topics, precedents, and case law. Synthesize and summarize findings for use by attorneys and business professionals.
- Consult with attorneys and business professionals regarding their legal and business research needs and strategy, ensuring the most cost-effective and authoritative research results.
- Serve as liaison to assigned vendors and practice groups to ensure up-to-date understanding of research capabilities and to ensure that practice groups are aware of the research tools and functionality available to them.
- Promote awareness about internal and external research resources, including planning and implementing training programs for lawyers and business professionals to promote timely and effective use of library resources. This includes conducting orientation for new attorney hires, and other business professionals as appropriate.
- Participate in department initiatives, including monitoring and current awareness services, collection and database evaluation, and other special projects as needed.
- Work collaboratively with other members of the Knowledge Management and Innovation department in the creation, implementation, and maintenance of KM and Innovation initiatives and projects.
- Stay current with new and developing trends in law, research and technology as well as on technological developments relating to online research, applications, services, and data analytics.
- Propose potential improvements to the firm’s processes and systems.
- May perform other duties not mentioned above.
What we’re looking for:
- Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited school or equivalent reference and online searching experience in a law firm environment.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the legal industry. Previous roles must have provided a variety of research and analytical perspectives and frameworks.
- Extensive and demonstrated knowledge of and proficiency in legal and business research and resources, including significant experience using Lexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg, Intelligize, VitalLaw, Courtlink, PACER, and other legal and business research platforms and resources, including law firm Document Management systems.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including clear and effective verbal and written communication, and the ability to present substantive information to individuals and groups.
- Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools.
- Ability to analyze and synthesize data into actionable information.
- Strong customer service orientation and discretion in handling confidential material and information.
- Ability to work efficiently independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize projects to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred:
- Excellent computer skills, including demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Experience with Kira, Neota Logic, and similar database resources.
- Knowledge of and experience supporting systems for research, request, and resource management resources integral to research services and knowledge systems.
- Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and prioritization skills.
