Our client’s business is the exploration, production, refining, trading and distribution of energy. This is a new role for someone to join the legal function of the Lubricants arms of this energy company.
You will need several years’ experience gained firstly in a leading international law firm followed by a proven track record gained in-house with an MNC.
The business you will report to covers 60 countries.
The role of Senior Legal Manager will be based in Singaporewhere most of the Leadership Team for the Region is based. The Senior Legal Manager will be a member of the Leadership Team and a key business partner to its members. As this is a newly created role, the first task will be to assess the full extent of the business’ legal needs, develop a strategy for meeting these needs and take responsibility for appropriately resourcing their legal team. The Senior Legal Manager will recruit, lead and develop lawyers and support staff for the business, including lawyers inSingapore,India, UAE andVietnam.
Responsibilities will include:
* Design and implement a legal strategy for the region.
* Develop strong working relationships with the Leadership Team and the respective teams reporting to the members of that Leadership Team that forms the basis for Legal becoming a strategic business partner at regional and country level.
* Provide strategic, commercially focussed legal advice and management counsel to the Leadership Team and to other key decision makers in the region.
* Proactively manage legal risks and manage disputes to constructive resolution; managing litigation, and ensure clients across the business receive day to day legal advice that is of a consistently high standard.
* Lead, coach and drive forward the personal and professional development of the Legal team in this area of business, be accountable for the team’s legal advice and the advice provided by specialist lawyers on all relevant legal issues affecting the business.
* Work closely with the globally matrixed Senior Legal Managers AIME, Global Supply Chain & Technology and Group Marketing and Strategy & Transformation to enable local implementation of their initiatives to drive consistently high quality standards across the team, to develop common standards and processes that enable and efficient and effective service provision by the legal team.
* Collaborate effectively with and provide guidance to other R&M lawyers tagged to the business around the globe.
* Work effectively with Ethics & Compliance to give effect to the company’s drive for the highest standards of compliance.
* Select, instruct and manage suitable external legal counsel.
* Prepare and manage the budget of US$1.5m for internal and external legal costs and be accountable for the rigorous management of legal costs.
