Buckfast is an acquired taste but like Iron Bru the Scots are very proud of it !

BUCKFAST bosses have threatened legal action against online traders selling knock-off gear plastered with their branding.

Firms are flogging hoodies, T-shirts and even face masks with almost identical branding to the tonic wine.

Stewart Wilson, sales manager at distributor J Chandler & Co, warned they will hammer anyone breaching their copyright.

He said: “We don’t sell any T-shirts or face masks with our name on it so they’re obviously not official.

“If there are products out there that are being offered for sale, then they’re not legitimate or coming from our business.

“The traders they’re buying it from are potentially breaching our trademark and it’s something we’d definitely look at.

“We’ve had trademark lawyers who have taken action against people in the past for similar things.”

At least a dozen different designers across the globe are selling products either with Buckfast’s name or using similar branding.

They include a variety of T-shirts selling on online marketplace Redbubble for between £15 and £20.

Some sites also tout £15 hoodies in the style of the drink’s label with mugs and phone cases also on offer.
