Roll On Friday’s Aus Law Firm Survey Soon To be Published

Looks like the publication of the 2009 Roll On Friday "Australian law firm survey" may give some firms a kick up the backside that they weren’t looking for right at this very moment in the economic cycle..

RollOnFriday Australian Law Firm Survey update

RollOnFriday’s Australian Law Firm Survey is producing a deluge of praise, contempt and incisive wit. The survey is still open – but results will be published shortly and here’s a taster in the meantime.

Blake Dawson continues to get a kicking for its woeful handling of its redundancy process. Apparently the firm ("a three-ringed circus managed by bumbling buffoons") contacted one of its associates on her honeymoon to tell her that she no longer had a job. Nice. Presumably the expense of changing her business cards was more the the firm could shoulder.

The survey is revealing that lawyers at many of the larger firms are deeply unhappy with their pay. AAR is slated for "terrible" pay – "mid level associates get less than trainees in London". And the wedge is "crap" at Mallesons, which "shanks staff on salary no matter what the HR robots say". But then on the upside, "heavy drinking is encouraged" at DLA Phillips Fox.

Other shock revelations are that everyone at Clayton Utz, it seems, is psychotic ("do not work here if you want a normal life"), and the biggest downside at Corrs Chambers Westgarth is having to share the ground floor foyer with
Mallesons staff who, claims one charming CCW insider, "are widely regarded as assholes".

If that’s just the taster we can’t wait for the full survey results !
