Roger Williams University School of Law is launching the Institute for Race and the Law in celebration of its 30th anniversary.
The Institute is set to transform the landscape of legal education, drive justice reform through legal scholarship and address root causes of systemic inequality.
The Institute has outlined its three pillars.
Pillar One: Legal Education
Provide law students, law schools and practicing lawyers with needed legal curriculum on race.
Pillar Two: Justice Reform
Legal research and policy work to address racial inequity in legislation and the administration of justice.
Pillar Three: Legal Services
Providing counsel and representation in the areas of law most significant to Rhode Island’s racial inequity such as housing discrimination, economic opportunity and access and prisoners’ rights.
In 2021, RWU Law became one of a handful of law schools nationwide to add a new required course on race and the law to its core legal curriculum: Race & the Foundations of American Law.
