The Rights Practice builds the capacity of civil society to hold governments to account for their human rights obligations. We are supporting the lawyers, scholars and local NGOs in China who are working to promote human rights. Improvements to the human rights situation in China will come from the demands of its citizens. That is why we work to provide them with the tools, knowledge and resources they need to stand up for their rights.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to support the development and implementation of our programme to support local champions working to combat the use of torture and ill treatment of anyone in detention. As part of a small team you will also be expected to contribute to projects that improve access to justice for the poorest and most vulnerable; safeguard the rights of anyone facing the death penalty and advance public participation in decision making.

You will need to be educated to degree level in a relevant area, have firsthand experience of living in China, knowledge of human rights and relevant work experience. Good communication skills in English and Chinese and the ability to deal diplomatically with senior management in partner organisations and government officials are essential. The successful applicant must be able to travel to China. In addition, you must be eligible to work in the UK.

The position may be available on a part-time basis; please state in your application if you only wish to be considered for the post on a full-time or part-time basis. The full-time annual salary will be in the region of ?27,000 to ?34,000 depending on relevant experience. Further details and a job description are available on request.
