Resource and Research Librarian Goldberg Segalla LLP Buffalo, NY

POSITION SUMMARY: :A key administrative position, the Research and Resource Librarian is responsible for management of the firm’s law library and legal resources and subscriptions and provides reference/legal research to lawyers, paralegals, and support staff. Additionally, the Research and Resource Librarian will work on a variety of experience and knowledge management initiatives to provide attorneys with access to firm-wide knowledge and experience resources.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage the operations of our electronic and paper law library including oversight of book and subscription purchases and allocating, organizing, and disseminating legal resources
  • Perform online searches using external databases and services included but not limited to Westlaw, Lexis Advance, CourtLink, Bloomberg Law, WK Cheetah, PACER, etc.
  • Create and maintain docket alerts, tracks, and research
  • Communicate results of research and analysis through written reports
  • Prepares and conducts training on research methods and resources to lawyers and staff; coordinates training with vendors
  • Coordinate interlibrary loans and location of other reference material as needed
  • Maintain the Firm intranet site and online catalog
  • Manage vendor relationships and evaluate usage of products; service as liaison between firm leadership and various vendors
  • Assist with the evaluation and review of new resources and subscriptions
  • Collect/update/organize practice and litigation documents and forms for internal use by various practice groups
  • Conceive, develop, and maintain internal KM processes and procedures as appropriate
  • Bills research time to client/matters as appropriate

EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master of Library and Information Science or J.D. required
  • Working knowledge of law library resources, fundamentals, and procedures
  • Experience with and working knowledge of the litigation process and docketing
  • Experience and proven success within the legal industry
  • Ability to meet deadlines and respond to changing priorities and project criteria while managing multiple projects
  • Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Excellent verbal and written skills. Able to read and interpret information accurately and concisely and provide clear, informative communication
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, set priorities, and see projects through to completion

WORKING CONDITIONS: :Work is generally performed within an office environment with standard office equipment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require moving about the office occasionally including to file various print materials.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Required to clearly communicate and exchange information in English
  • Regularly required to physically operate routine office equipment such as telephones, computers, copiers/scanners, etc.
  • Regularly required to observe and assess data and documents, in print and electronically
  • May be requested to work beyond normal work hours and weekends for special projects
  • May be required to move objects up to 20 lbs. from one level to another from time to time
