Research/ Reference Librarian Notre Dame Law School – Notre Dame, IN

The Kresge Law Library at the Notre Dame Law School is hiring for a new Law Library faculty position. This position incorporates both teaching and research responsibilities and is especially suited for someone looking to develop the skills necessary to assume greater positions of authority within an academic law library. This position also provides an opportunity to assist us in reimagining the research services department’s mission, services, and curriculum. Both experienced librarians and recent (including 2020) graduates are encouraged to apply.

Provide research service to the faculty and students of the law school, the University community, and the public.
Participate in collection development activities in coordination with the Collections Development Librarian.
Participate in the faculty liaison program by meeting regularly with assigned faculty about their research interests, attending their workshop presentations, making recommendations on their behalf to the Collection Development Librarian, and training faculty research assistants.
Teach one or more sections of the first-year introductory legal research course and a topical/advanced legal research course based on the successful candidate’s expertise and interests.
Participate in the activities of professional organizations.
Other duties as assigned.

The salary will be nationally competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University offers a generous benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance; 20 vacation days and approximately 14 paid holidays; retirement options; tuition benefits for dependents; and access to University events. The Law Library pays for individual membership in the American Association of Law Libraries and provides liberal support for appropriate conferences and workshops. The Law Library will also pay for relocation expenses and annual license/registration fees for one state bar. The anticipated start date is summer 2020. This is a full-time faculty appointment with a presumptively renewable contract.


Essential Qualifications:
JD from an ABA-accredited institution (or equivalent degree) and a MLIS from an ALA?accredited institution (or equivalent degree).
Knowledge of legal materials, research methodology, and current trends in the legal profession and law libraries.
Demonstrated awareness of current technology trends in the legal profession and law libraries.
Strong service orientation and awareness of end user needs.
Strong interest in developing skills in instruction and curriculum design.
Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
Enthusiasm, creativity, and eagerness to propose new projects and workflows.
Ability to learn new technology independently and to adapt quickly to changing technologies.

Desirable Qualifications:
Previous experience in an academic library setting, preferably an academic law library.
Demonstrated interest in foreign, comparative and international law research.
Interest in instructional design theory.
Experience in classroom teaching and in the effective integration of new technologies in teaching and learning.
Collaborative nature and interest in working with parties from multiple disciplines and promoting the law library’s instructional programs.
