Research Librarian Thompson Hine LLP Columbus, OH

Thompson Hine LLP is currently seeking candidates for a full-time (40 hours per week) Research Librarian in our downtown Columbus office. This exempt position will be an integral member of the Library’s Virtual Research Desk (VRD) team.

Job duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Performs legal, business, scientific, medical, technical, engineering, marketing, biographical, public records, and general research services in a virtual environment.
  • Sets up topical and docket Alert services on electronic resources for lawyers.
  • Provides reference and research services using Firm resources, outside library memberships and sources, and a wide variety of in-house subscription databases.
  • Delivers research product using email, document delivery system, or other methods as requested by lawyers.
  • Instructs individual Library users (on-site and remote) on use of the library’s electronic and print resources.
  • Assists with locating User IDs and passwords for over 100 electronic resources through password management system.
  • Contributes data on research to the Library’s KM and statistics reporting system.
  • Updates electronic and Intranet resources and access points.
  • Takes part in regular Library conference calls and in-house or vendor-presented training sessions.
  • Responds to local staff requests, questions, and problems pertaining to library services. Provides basic library instruction, including use of online catalog, search tools, and equipment use.
  • Maintains sign-out sheets, retrieves used and overdue books from offices, and performs stack management duties at the local library.
  • Maintains and updates library materials (as needed), appearance of Library, and computer equipment. Maintains manual files and supplies. Sends out overdue notices or recalls items by phone or e-mail.
  • Processes library materials for the local library, including newspapers and magazines for Reception Area.
  • Performs daily upkeep of administrative tasks on Virtual Reference Desk under the direction of the Research Services Librarian, including monitoring the status of queries, and maintaining accurate library reference statistical records using the library’s statistics tool.

Qualified candidates will possess a Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS) or equivalent degree as well as basic knowledge of library procedures. Candidates should also have experience with a variety of online research databases, including legal and general resources. Experience using a variety of technologies, including word processing, spreadsheet, and database software is necessary. Law or other Special Library experience preferred.
