Regulatory practice statement Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (Australia)

DESCRIPTION

One of the important ways in which the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment delivers regulatory outcomes is by administering Australia’s natural resources legislation and by helping to develop strong agricultural industries.

This statement outlines the Department’s approach to delivering better practice regulation across the diverse regulatory functions administered.

Focusing on outcomes, the Department is accountable for administering the law, and enabling those affected to understand expectations and more easily comply. It aims to deliver better practice regulation and achieve regulatory outcomes that are beneficial for the Australian community, regulated entities and industry in 3 domains:

  1. the protection of human, animal and plant health, and the environment by ensuring the safe movement of people, food and other goods into Australia.
  2. the protection of the land, water, biological and heritage aspects of our natural environment, in a way that supports sustainability and productivity.
  3. the enabling of primary producers to be more productive, and able to access and compete in domestic and international markets.
