Job Description Summary

This position will recommend, interpret, evaluate, and use information resources to help Faculty, Staff, and Students with legal research and scholarship. While providing reference services to the Law School he/she/they are responsible for collection development, Faculty support, student services, and instruction. The incumbent will teach instructional research, participate in reference desk service delivery, write research guides, organize and administer systems, and provide individual research and scholarship consultation, guidance, and support.

Job Description
Collection Development
  • Participates in the process of evaluating and developing library collections.
  • Monitors scholarly research of Faculty in order to best recognize needs of the collections and resources.
  • Conducts research using publisher information, mailings, email, and vendor contacts to identify new resources, assess quality, and stay current.
  • Recommends purchases to build or update collections based on collection priorities and community needs.
  • Selects new material to replace lost, damaged, or outdated materials.
  • Updates and administers selection, cancellation, and retention processes.
Reference
  • Provides reference services for the Law School via the Service Desk and Reference Service email system.
  • Conducts research for Law School strategic initiatives and provides to various offices as needed.
  • Regularly assesses library material and generates research guides based on reference materials.
  • Maintains and updates library information outlining reference services.
  • Educates the community about research methods, proper citation, and use of reference sources.
Faculty Support
  • Stays current with new initiatives and technologies related to academic publishing and the provision of Faculty services.
  • Provides classroom and instructional support for Faculty.
  • Provides technology and research training for Faculty.
  • Supports, organizes, and maintains the creation of original intellectual property by Law Faculty and Students. This may include scholarly articles, books, cases, presentations, course material, and testimony among others.
  • Works with Faculty to keep profiles up to date and ensures research material is available and electronically organized.
  • Performs extensive in-depth, expert legal, and non-legal research.
  • Consults with researchers to determine need, participates in research design, and executes projects for research design efficiently.
  • Monitors Faculty scholarly output, tracks and maintains Faculty works. Assist with updates to Faculty CVs and ensure scholarship is easily accessible to the public.
Student Services
  • Provides in-depth assistance to individual students and student organizations on research related projects.
  • Meets with students to discuss writing assignments and requirements. Provides guidance to help determine the best course of action for research related to their topic.
  • Assists Journal students with research related to notes, comments, and spading and provides publishing assistance.
  • Provides research sessions and technology training geared towards specific populations or activities such as RA training, journal research training, moot court, and Bridge to Practice summer training.
  • Provides written and verbal references and letters of recommendation for students seeking clerkships or other permanent employment.
  • Completes Bar Application references as needed.
Instruction
  • Required to teach up to two courses before overload is considered. One course may be section A & B and the other may be assigned by the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs in consultation with the head of the Library.
  • Develops instructional design including learning outcomes, curriculum, assessments and evaluations.
  • In partnership with Academic Affairs develops new research, writing, and pedagogy for courses. Revamps curriculum as needed.
  • Provides weekly instruction, grading, and office hours along with timely and effective feedback to students.
  • Participates in professional development and assesses instruction delivery to continually improve as a teacher.
  • Provides research instruction sessions in Law School classes at the request of the Faculty.
  • Provides individual or group research consolations, teaching services, trainings, and workshops.
  • Serves on Law School, University, and organizational committees.
  • Provides substantive information and assessment in service of Faculty committees.
Other
  • Creates mechanisms for the evaluation and delivery of services.
  • Will supervise and monitor specific programs, initiatives, and projects as needed.
  • Engages with the community for functions such as orientation, applicants, tours, visitors, etc.
  • May perform additional or other work as assigned.
