Reference Librarian – Law University of Houston

The University of Houston Law Center invites applications for a Reference Librarian.

The University of Houston Law Center O’Quinn Law Library is seeking outstanding candidates with demonstrated excellent communication skills and strong service orientation; ability to work strategically in a complex, changing environment; proven capacity to work both independently and as a team member; and the ability to work effectively with law faculty, students, staff, and a diverse community.

Responsibilities:
Provide reference services to law school faculty, staff, students, attorneys, and the public at the reference desk, including some evening and weekend hours; serve as library liaison to assigned law school faculty members; provide legal research instruction for law center classes and workshops; create and maintain legal research guides, tutorials, and other library publications; participate in the evaluation and selection of information resources for collection development; and other duties as assigned.

Reports to the Director of the Law Library.

This is a librarian position. Librarians hold academic rank pursuant to the University of Houston Librarians’ Bylaws Document. They are expected to develop a record of service, scholarship, and professional involvement. The UH Libraries support the ongoing professional development of librarians and our goal is to recruit librarians committed to continuous learning.

Compensation will be based on experience.

General Information:
The Law Center has 60 full-time faculty and enrolls a total of 800 students. In addition to offering a vibrant J.D. program, the Law Center offers LL.M. concentrations in health law; taxation; energy, environment, and natural resources; international law; and intellectual property and information law. The Law Center is fully accredited by the American Bar Association and is a member of the Association of American Law Schools.

Qualifications:
J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school

MLS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program preferred, but will consider those who are enrolling in such a program with a commitment to completing the degree within 2 years.
