The Law Institute of Victoria (LIV) is the state’s peak body for lawyers. Representing more than 19,000 members the LIV’s purpose is to foster the rule of law and to promote improvements and developments in the law as it affects the public of Victoria. The LIV is a non-profit organisation dedicated to its members and the development, maintenance and the sustenance of the law for the benefit of the community.


About the Role:

Reporting to the Library Lead, you will be responsible for supporting the effective operation of the LIV Library by providing references & research services, information services and legal resources to all LIV members, legal practitioners and staff. Key responsibilities include:

 

Reference and Research:

  • Providing high quality reference and research support.
  • Manage and deliver all archive requests.
  • Assist document delivery requests in the library workflow (supply and demand).

 

Library Marketing and Planning:

  • Assist with LIV eMarketing to support access to the library management system.
  • Contribute and participate in project planning, assist with setting milestones and work.

 

Cataloguing and Indexing:

  • Locate and catalogue various items of special significance, including online reports, papers and websites.
  • Index new articles of interest from journals.

 

Digital Support:

  • Develop and maintain electronic resources to support LIV members.
  • Assist collect, assess and report on digital library usage statistics.

 

To be successful in this role:

  • Experience in research, reference, and technical services;
  • Demonstrated team-work and leadership skills to achieve effective outcomes;
  • A sound knowledge of legal reference materials;
  • A sound knowledge and ability to manage a diverse range of information technology applicable to a library environment;
  • Have a capacity to work collaboratively within a small team;
  • Have well developed written and verbal communication skills;
  • Experience working with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders; and
  • Capable of working in a demanding and busy environment

 

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualifications in library information management
  • Eligibility for Associate membership of ALIA
