Reference Librarian for law firm – LA or SF Alchemy Legal

Professional position that provides both legal and non-legal research and reference assistance to all attorneys and staff for client-generated projects and Firm projects. Firm projects include, but are not limited to, business development research, competitive intelligence research, seminar development, pro-bono work, and professional development. This exempt position would be required to work evenings and weekends when circumstances demand, and must also be able to work holidays as assigned.

Essential Duties

Provides and manages research services and consultation for attorneys and staff including legal and non-legal research utilizing multiple print and online resources.

Conducts online research using resources including, but not limited to, LexisNexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg Law, Wolters Kluwer Cheetah and Intelliconnect, ProQuest, and Dun & Bradstreet.

Provides and manages current awareness and alert services for attorneys and staff.

Provides and manages direct research service to clients as requested by attorneys.

Maintains working knowledge of research resources and trains new attorneys, staff and summer associates on Firm library procedures, services and resources.

Exhibits exemplary understanding of federal and state legislative and regulatory processes to research and monitor developments in areas affecting the Firm’s clients.

Maintains ongoing professional development through review of legal and library publications, attending professional association seminars and meetings, and receiving regular training from vendors.

Promotes library public relations by maintaining a professional, service-oriented attitude and by keeping current with the needs and trends of the Firm.

Works with other members of the library staff to enhance the development of library resources, services and procedures to best serve the needs of the Firm.

Skills Needed to be Successful

Excellent oral and written communications skills; extensive knowledge of legal and non-legal resources; creativity; initiative; ability to use online services; ability to set priorities and make appropriate judgments; ability to work under pressure; provides superior service to clients, attorneys, and staff; produces quality work product.

Master of Library and Information Science degree required. Previous experience in a legal or corporate library preferred.

Compensation will be commensurate with experience, salary is flexible depending on the candidate (they told us to send along candidates with salary expectations)
