Reference Librarian Davis Wright Tremaine LLP – Washington, DC 

This is an exciting opportunity to work for one of the top law firms in the U.S. We are looking for an enthusiastic researcher to join our team in Washington D.C. This position will be part of a team responsible for delivering legal, business and technical research services to attorneys and staff nationwide; providing training and assistance to attorneys and staff in the use of resources in a variety of formats; and developing and promoting the services of the Information Resource Center.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of a nation-wide team of librarians providing comprehensive and sophisticated legal, business, and technical research services for attorneys and staff in all DWT offices.
  • Develop and maintain expertise in the use of a wide variety of legal, business and practice-related resources in multiple formats with increasing emphasis on digital media.
  • Provide orientation, training, and assistance to attorneys and staff in efficient use of research resources in a variety of formats. Help develop training materials for end-users.
  • Actively market IRC services through a variety of avenues including practice group attendance and presentations.
  • Participate in the development of library policies, procedures, and portal content.
  • Develop and manage current awareness services for attorneys and staff.
  • Remain current on technological applications and best practices relevant to providing high quality library and research services.
  • Provide background research and updates on current or potential clients and markets in support of DWT’s business development efforts.
  • Locate and retrieve needed research materials using both internal and external sources.
  • Prepare state and federal legislative histories.
  • Monitor online databases for practice-specific information.
  • Provide cite-checking services.
  • Assist with various administrative duties and projects as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years’ legal reference/research experience, preferably in a law or corporate library; Masters in Library and Information Science required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of WestlawNext, Lexis Advance, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel required; knowledge of all MS Office products strongly preferred.
  • Ability to perform legal, business, and technical research using a variety of resources in multiple formats.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team located in different locations.
  • Ability to develop training materials and teach individuals and groups.
  • Ability to set goals and multi-task effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally with lawyers and staff, both in written and verbal communications.
  • Strong attention to detail is essential along with solid analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment in both team and independent settings.
  • Strong interpersonal and client service skills required, including understanding and responding in a timely manner to a variety of inquiries and requests.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines required.
  • High degree of sensitivity to confidential matters required.
  • Available for travel to DWT’s other offices as needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
