JOB TITLE: Reference Librarian

FLSA: Non-exempt

REPORTS TO: Manager of Library Services

SUMMARY: The Reference Librarian provides research and reference services to attorneys, paralegals, and support staff in both the D.C. and New York offices. This position is also responsible for assisting the Library Manager with compiling legislative histories, research training, acquisitions, subscriptions management, collection development, and library technology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: “Essential functions” are primarily job duties that incumbents must be able to perform unassisted or with some reasonable accommodation made by the employer.

Provides skilled and customized reference and research services to attorneys and paralegals using print and electronic sources, including social media.
Supports Competitive Intelligence and Business Development projects.
Assists attorneys and paralegals with cite checking, news alerts, and docket tracking.
Manages online ID and Passwords for research platforms and maintains user database in Integrated Library System (ILS) platform.
Responsible for scheduling Westlaw, Lexis, and other online research platforms training for attorneys and paralegals in both offices.
Provides orientation training of library services for new employees.
Responsible for daily routing of electronic newsletters and check-in of print materials.
Responsible for bindery process.
Responsible for interlibrary loans.
Assists the Library Manager in tracking current legislation, maintaining print and online legislative folders, and compiling legislative histories.
Assists the Library Manager in reconciling library purchases and annual budget preparation.
Assists the Library Manager with maintaining the knowledge management platform (intranet), ILS platform, and other applications.
Assists with collection development and coordinates with the Contract Librarian regarding acquisitions, including cataloging, new orders, desk copies, renewals, missing materials, vendor contacts, and cancellations for print and electronic resources.
All other duties as assigned by the Library Manager or Firm Administrator.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Master’s degree in Library and Information Science required.
Minimum three to five years of progressively responsible work experience with legal or other professional services organization in order to gain knowledge of legal bibliography, legal research, and law library procedures.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills necessary in order to communicate with a diverse group of attorneys and staff and provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact.
Strong computer skills with working knowledge of library database software, web-based research tools, and other research applications.
Ability to manage high levels of mental effort and strain when performing essential duties and handling multiple requests in a timely and efficient manner.
Work occasionally requires more than the standard 37.5 hours per week to perform and may require irregular hours from time to time.
