Full Job Description

ZAI has an immediate need for a Reference and Research Librarian, with knowledge of legal reference, for a federal agency library located in Washington, DC. The Reference and Research Librarian works as a team member with two other library professionals and is responsible for complex research assistance (legal, business, economics, engineering), collection development, user instruction, library activity reports, user feedback, and library events.

Responsibilities include:

  • Respond to reference and research requests, from quick-turnaround inquiries to complex research, particularly in the areas of law, business, and economics
  • Use all available legal and other resources, including electronic databases, in-house digital collections, webpages, grey literature, etc. to respond to research request
  • Create and update instructional materials, including LibGuides and other Library resources
  • Collaborate with other staff librarians on monthly library marketing
  • Liaise with key internal agency stakeholders and subject matter experts
  • Perform library management activities, including library and marketing strategies
  • Perform collection development, including recommendations for new book/resource acquisitions
  • Update/fix the eLibrary intranet site with current links for resources.
  • Update/fix Team Virtual Reference Desk Wiki with current links and passwords for resources
  • Compile and produce the monthly, quarterly, and annual Library Activity Report

Qualifications:

  • MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution
  • Minimum of 1 year of professional experience working in a law library and/or performing legal reference and research
  • Knowledge of the literature of the law, including primary and secondary sources, accompanying finding tools, and adjunct publications in all media formats (print, full-text legal databases, such as Westlaw, Lexis, Bloomberg Law, HeinOnline, ProQuest Congressional Suite, Congress.gov, Govinfo.gov
  • Working knowledge of legal vocabulary and terminology, including legal abbreviations and citation systems
  • Experience with outreach and programming, such as library event planning, marketing campaigns
  • Ability to teach library users how to identify and use sources for legal research
  • Experience in presentations and teaching library users how to use research resources, including legal databases
  • Understanding of collection management, including the ability to make decisions regarding the identification, selection, and acquisition of the legal and non-legal resources
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products: Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and work as part of a team

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 – $65,000.00 per year
