This position is part of the reference team that provides reference services to all law library users as well as leads outreach activities to Vermont Law School students, faculty, and staff. The Reference and Academic Outreach Librarian prepares library guides and other research tools for Vermont Law School’s online and residential communities. This position provides leadership in developing and implementing promotional activities and events. The Reference and Academic Outreach Librarian manages the faculty liaison program as well as the reference, rare books, and archives collections. Instructional responsibilities include conducting research classes and library orientation sessions.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provides legal research guidance to law school faculty, staff, students, and the public including regular rotations for walk-in and email reference questions
Develops and maintains library engagement with Vermont Law School’s online students
Leads the faculty liaison program
Develops and implements promotional activities and events
Participates in library marketing activities, including social media
Conducts library research sessions, and may teach legal research courses
Provides library tours and orientation sessions
Oversees the reference, rare book, and archives collections
Participates in library assessment and statistics activities
Creates and maintains documentation on workflows and procedures
Participates in library cross training activities
Participates in professional development at the local, regional, and national level
Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Required Qualifications
Master’s in Library Science degree, or equivalent, from an accredited library school required, JD preferred
Demonstrated reference and instruction ability, preferably in an academic or legal environment
Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite
Excellent communication skills, oral and written
Strong service philosophy
Excellent attention to detail and follow through
Excellent skills in planning, prioritizing, and evaluation
Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
Willingness to adapt to changing priorities and workflows as needed
Ability to work across organizational boundaries to affect a productive, collegial working environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with online education
Experience in law libraries
Knowledge of and familiarity with legal materials and research methods
Experience with marketing practices
Knowledge of assessment and survey techniques
Knowledge of collection development practices
Knowledge of special collections and archives practices
