The Reference and Academic Outreach Librarian prepares library guides and other research tools for the school’s online and residential communities. This position manages the faculty liaison program, selects, and evaluates portions of the library’s collection. Instructional responsibilities include conducting research classes and library orientation sessions.Essential Functions and Principal Accountabilities:
Provides legal research guidance to the school’s faculty, staff, students, and the public including regular rotations for walk-in and email reference questions.
Develops and maintains research guides to assist users and facilitate library engagement.
Manages and develops content for the library website.
Coordinates and maintains library engagement with the school’s online students.
Leads the faculty liaison program.
Monitors faculty scholarship trends.
Develops and implements promotional activities and events in conjunction with the Electronic Resources and Technology Librarian.
Develops and participates in library’s marketing activities.
Conducts library research sessions, and may teach legal research courses.
Provides library tours and orientation sessions.
Selects, de-selects, and evaluates strengths and weaknesses of assigned collection areas in conjunction with VLS’s research and curricular needs.
Participates in library assessment and statistics activities.
Creates and maintains documentation on workflows and procedures.
Participates in library cross training activities and serves as backup for the library website.
Participates in professional development at the local, regional, and national level.

. Requirements:
Required Education, Skills and Experience:
Master’s in Library Science degree, or equivalent, from an accredited library school required, JD preferred.
Demonstrated reference and instruction ability required, preferably in an academic or legal environment.
Knowledge of collection development practices.
Understanding of, appreciation for, and commitment to inclusion, including the ability to work with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds, identities, and viewpoints.
Proficiency in a Microsoft Office (365) environment.
Ability to adapt to emerging technology as established and communicated by the school.
Excellent English-language communication skills, both oral and written.
Strong service philosophy.
Excellent attention to detail and follow through.
Excellent skills in planning, prioritizing, and evaluation.
Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
Willingness to adapt to changing priorities and workflows as needed.
Ability to work across organizational boundaries to affect a productive, collegial working environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with online education.
Experience in law libraries.
Knowledge of and familiarity with legal materials and research methods.
Experience with marketing practices.
Knowledge of assessment and survey techniques.
Knowledge of collection development practices.
