Reed’s Good Fortunes Won’t Reflect On All Employees

A short report on the Charlottesville Daily Progress reveals that more Lexis staff will be laid off in early 2009..

The report reveals that LexisNexis scheduling layoffs next year and the Charlottesville office is planning to lay off as many as nine workers by early January, the company announced yesterday

 

The report goes on to say

The employees are part of the company’s division that handles searchable databases of local laws. The jobs will be cut as part of LexisNexis plans to divest that aspect of its business. The deal with Florida-based Municipal Code Corp. is not final.

LexisNexis, headquartered in New York City, employs more than 13,000 people worldwide and had revenues of $3.2 billion in 2007. In early afternoon trading, LexisNexis’ parent company, Reed Elsevier, had declined a bit. One listing showed a drop of 6.54 percent, while its other listing fell by 4.85 percent.
