Recruitment: Editor of Legal Information Management

Would you like to be the next Editor of Legal Information Management?

Applications are invited from individuals to succeed David Wills as Editor from July 2022, to be appointed as the seventh editor of the journal which originated in 1970 as The Law Librarian.

About the journal

Legal Information Management (LIM) is the official journal of the British and Irish Association of Law Librarians (BIALL). LIM is published and distributed to members of BIALL and subscribers four times a year. Aimed primarily at legal information professionals in the UK and Ireland, but read worldwide, the journal informs and updates readers on issues and developments in the sector. The publication of LIM is overseen by an Editor, with the support of an editorial board and our publishers, Cambridge University Press.

Editor’s role

The Editor has overall responsibility for publishing four issues of LIM each year. This involves commissioning content, along with compiling, copy-editing and proofreading each issue. The Editor is also expected to liaise closely with authors, answer day-to-day queries and attend twice-yearly editorial board meetings and the annual BIALL conference. The Editor is supported by an editorial board, which assists with proofreading and identifying topics for future issues.

The appointment will be on the recommendation of the BIALL Council and will start between July and September 2022, initially for a term of 3 years. There will be a handover period with the current editor. The appointee will be under contract to and salaried by BIALL.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have a background in the legal information field, along with a mature network of contacts to support commissioning in the area. They will also be aware of the work and concerns of BIALL and its members. Editing experience would be useful, but it is not essential. Most importantly, they will have an enthusiastic and entrepreneurial approach to encouraging contributions to the journal and be committed to maintaining the high quality and reputation of the journal.
