Quite persuaded that the global turndown isn’t affecting Australian law firms.
Our regular readers will know that both Blakes and Ebsworths have been trying to silently layoff staff.
As for the rest of the Australian legal market we will happily admit that we are in the dark as to how many jobs have gone, are about to go or will be going over the next month.
We’ve read some short statements from partners at Aus law firms trotting out the standard.. "we’re better insulated from the vagaries of the market" than the UK & US law firms and to some extent they are right. But now China has stopped buying commodities it looks as though things may start to change in Australia; and Roll On Friday are determined to find out.
