Job Description Summary
The Biddle Law Library at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School seeks applicants for a full-time Project Archivist position for a fixed term of 18-24 months. The successful candidate will join a talented team dedicated to providing outstanding research support at a highly collaborative law school that prides itself on cross-disciplinary studies. This position reports directly to the Archivist, under the Associate Director for Collections and Operations, and will primarily provide archival processing and reference services with respect to dedicated projects within Archives.

Job Description

The Project Archivist will mainly be responsible for processing a large backlog of National Bankruptcy Archives, American Law Institute, and Penn Law archives. In addition, the Project Archivist will supply support through assisting with the creation of policies, procedures, and other resources necessary to coordinate and maintain the archives’ digital and paper-based collections.

Remote projects will include metatadata creation, records management support, management of the institutional Archive-It account, collection development support, and data clean-up projects related to the migration of Archivists’ Toolkit to ArchivesSpace. Once archives staff can safely return to campus, this position will shift focus to conducting collection surveys and inventories, processing the backlog of archives collections, creating online finding aids, and minor collection preservation tasks. In addition, on-site responsibilities include the digitization of select NBA, ALI, and Penn Law records and photographs.

Required Qualifications
An accredited master’s degree in library or information science, with a concentration in archives

A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience processing archival collections

Expert knowledge of DACS, EAD, Archivists’ Toolkit, Archive-It, ArchivesSpace, MARC, XML, and Dublin Core

Facility with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Power Point and Access), Adobe Suite software

Demonstrated ability to manage time and complete projects efficiently and effectively

Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Evidence of a strong commitment to service, willingness to work collaboratively, and flexibility in response to change

Strong analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently

A commitment to diversity and equity

Desired Qualifications
Experience processing electronic and born-digital archives

Prior work with legal and/or higher education archival materials

Familiarity with LibGuides, CONTENTdm, WMS, and Sierra (Penn Law’s integrated library system)
