#Changsha Three – Liu Dazhi Released, Cheng Yuan Sentenced to 5 Years

. Tortured during the detention

. No judgment provided to family members

Changsha Funeng, August 6, 2021 – Shi Minglei, one of #Changsha Three Cheng Yuan’s wife, learned from various sources that Cheng Yuan, the founder of Changsha Funeng, had been sentenced to five years in prison. Prior to this, she only inquired about Wuge Jianxiong’s three-year sentence and Liu Dazhi’s two-year sentence. All three were convicted of alleged Subverting State Power, but Cheng Yuan’s sentence has not been disclosed by the authority. Up to now, the Changsha City Intermediate People’s Court and the six government-assigned lawyers in the case have refused to give the family court’s judgment.

In addition, it is reported that Liu Dazhi was released in the early morning of July 22, 2021, and was directly sent back to his hometown in Huaihua, Hunan province by the police. He temporarily stayed at his mother’s home for recuperation.

Shi Minglei and Wu Youshui, family members of #Changsha Three, both believed that this was an illegal sentence. The Changsha Funeng case was conducted in secret from arrests, prosecutions, court sessions, and judgments. The case was not even entered in the court system, and the government-assigned lawyers became a tool to block all information. “This is a typical case of persecuting human rights defenders in the name of national security.” Shi Minglei said.

Wu Youshui said that he immediately went to Changsha to submit the second-instance defense formalities after learning that his son had been sentenced for three years, but was interrupted by the court. Wu Youshui said very angrily: “The right to defend my son in the first instance was deprived, and the right to defend in the second instance was deprived again!”

Cheng Yuan’s wife, Shi Minglei, learned that #Changsha Three had been abused. They were starved for a year and a half, kept in solitary custody, and rarely saw the sun. It made her heart broken and worry about her husband’s physical and psychological health. So far, the family members have no idea about where Cheng Yuan and Wu Gejianxiong are and where they will be transferred to serve their sentences.

“After I learned Cheng Yuan’s exact sentence, I was very angry all day and couldn’t eat any food. This result made me particularly sad, but I will not give up protesting the public prosecutors and government-assigned lawyers who persecuted my husband.” Shi Minglei said.
