The Librarian I will assists the Law Librarian with administrative tasks, collection development, technical services, and providing reference for both lawyers and non-lawyers. The incumbent will evaluate and recommend titles to add or remove from the collection; assist patrons with legal research and provide effective use of resources; update legal research guides and content for the Law Library website; and provide referrals to appropriate agencies or organizations.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Duties may include:

Teaches legal research to library reference staff, court staff, attorneys, and law firm support staff.

Works with court and bar on self-help and lawyer referral research resources.

Explores grant-funded projects with public and county law librarians.

Prepares grant and special funding applications and reports; and monitors and controls grant expenditures.

May serve as liaison to Oregon State Bar, Oregon Judicial Department, Oregon State Library, and Oregon Library Association in the Law Librarian’s absence.

May represent the Law Library on public service TV and radio programs in the Law Librarian’s absence.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Education and Experience

A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

A Master’s Degree in Library Science from an accredited American Library Association, program or related field, with coursework in legal bibliography and research or related field. OR

Six (6) years’ experience in a para-professional law librarian position or related field may substitute for the degree requirement.

Selection Process

1. An evaluation of training and experience of submitted application packets will be performed by Human Resources. Review of applications will occur the week of April 30, 2018.

2. A Subject Matter Expert (SME) Panel will perform an in-depth evaluation of experience and training taken from your employment application materials to include responses to supplemental questionnaire. This process will begin after May 7, 2018.

3. Washington County will perform DMV records checks on candidates that successfully pass the SME Panel review step in the selection process.

4. Our goal is to schedule oral panel interviews with candidates that successfully passed the DMV evaluation step as soon as possible.
