9 Month FTC role in London

Main Purpose of the role and any specialist knowledge requirements

To provide editorial support across the Lexis®PSL/TolleyGuidance UK practical guidance portfolio-online subscription-only services for legal/tax professionals delivering up-to-date practice-area specific guidance, checklists, precedents, forms, drafting notes, legal/tax analysis and news (built and maintained by our own specialist authors, expert contributors and consulting editorial boards).

The role will involve working as part of a team of Editors and Senior Editors at Farringdon Street, London and working closely with REPH Editors in Manila and Iloilo to perfect online content and ensure a first-class customer experience. You will be editorially proficient (house style, English language and XML mark-up) and will undertake building and quality checking of content. You should have proven editing skills and experience of editing in XML.

Key Responsibilities

  • Editing on-screen core content for LexisPSL/TolleyGuidance using Arbortext Editor Software
  • Applying and editing XML mark-up for core content
  • Thoroughly reviewing content for sense and conformity to house style, proof reading legal/tax content, making style corrections and ensuring adherence of product style guides
  • Working with offshore third party suppliers-supplying content for conversion and quality checking returned offshore work
  • Working with REPH Editors to provide guidance on day-to-day tasks
  • Publishing and quality checking content, and liaising with REPH Editors to do so
  • Quality checking work, producing metrics for content areas
  • Liaising with several teams throughout the business including Authors, Editorial, Fabrication and Content Developers
  • Ensuring editorial and product best practice and style guide is followed for assigned content areas
  • Uploading new content to Content Management System (PAM/ECHo), requesting taxonomy codes and forms etc.
  • Liaising with Editors to ensure broken links are fixed for assigned content areas
  • Trouble-shooting and error resolution throughout the process, escalating to technical teams where appropriate
  • Identifying process improvements and working with Practical Guidance Operations Manager and PSL Senior Editors to roll out streamlined Content Management team processes
  • Providing other editorial support to internal author and developer teams

Specialist Knowledge / Skills Required

  • Proven first-rate sub-editing ability and application of house style
  • Proficiency in editing content in XML mark-up
  • Experience working in an area of some complexity and using professional knowledge to deliver results
  • Excellent communication skills (experience working with legal/tax professionals or similar is an advantage)
  • Pro-active approach to solving complex problems (you will be comfortable making suggestions and willing to discuss these with team members and more senior colleagues to develop solutions)
  • Experience of legal/tax subject matter and document creation processes highly desirable
  • Interest in legal/tax change and issues affecting the industry is desirable
  • Graduate or similar (law, English, history or other essay-based degree qualification desirable)
