Description:

Stanford Law School seeks applications for the newly-created position of Digital Projects & Continuing Resources Librarian in the Robert Crown Law Library.

Working under the supervision of the Head of Collection Services, the Digital Projects & Continuing Resources Librarian manages a team of staff to plan, implement, and manage all aspects of the continuing resource lifecycle for serial acquisitions in both print and electronic formats. In a collaborative environment, this position maintains responsibility for licensing and the management of electronic information resources purchased by the law library, as well as the shared consortial resources purchased collaboratively with Stanford University Libraries. The Digital Projects & Continuing Resources Librarian assists the library administration in planning and developing policies, workflows, and special digital projects, and maintains responsibility for supervising staff, establishing team goals and objectives, and measuring staff performance. The successful candidate will work with other law library team leaders to resolve question or problems related to the acquisition of, or access to, continuing resources.

Specifically, the Digital Projects & Continuing Resources Librarian:

· Coordinates the management of all continuing resources, including electronic journals and databases, after they are acquired;

  • Partners with the Acquisitions Librarian and branch staff on the ordering and payment activity of continuing resources.
  • Collects, analyzes, and presents use, purchase, and availability data of electronic resources;
  • Works with colleagues to provide access to resources and to develop and implement innovative solutions for resource discovery;
  • Develops and maintains tools for the management of electronic resources;
  • Develops policies and procedures for the description, handling, and preservation of continuing resources;
  • Collaborates with staff to create and manage for electronic and digital collections, including institutional research, scanned historical photos, text, and born-digital images;
  • Collaborates with the cataloging team to design and implement metadata templates for digital collections, incorporating a variety of controlled vocabularies;
  • Partners with the Head of Collection Services to coordinate original and copy cataloging of serials, electronic resources, government documents, and rare special collections materials for contribution to OCLC and local catalog;
  • Coordinates creation of local holdings records for library’s serials;
  • Hires, trains, and supervises librarians, library staff, student workers and interns, as needed;
  • Creates and revises procedures, best and local practices, documentation, and reports to record departmental and project decisions;
  • Develop, create, and maintain the Law School’s institutional repository. Coordinate IR workflows with the Head of Collection Services and other staff members;
  • Manage and maintain the faculty working papers and other collections in the institutional repository.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

· Master’s degree from ALA-accredited school of library and/or information studies;

  • Working knowledge of integrated library systems as used by collection management units, including reporting functions and the structure and management of online catalogs;
  • Knowledge of technical services; knowledge of acquisitions and serial practices and procedures; knowledge of basic cataloging and bibliographic principles for serials; knowledge of serial/electronic resources issues and emerging trends; knowledge of publishing trends, book and subscription trade
  • Three or more years of serial or acquisitions experience in an academic or research library is strongly preferred;
  • A very strong service ethic, and the ability to blend harmoniously with colleagues and the law school and university communities;
  • An aptitude for and interest in project planning and management, as well as excellent organizational, time-management, and analytical skills;
  • Demonstrated exceptional written and oral communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and collaboratively, within a collegial environment;
  • A commitment to continuous service improvement and innovation.
