We’ve been informed by two sources that ..
CEO of Lexis Nexis Australia, Max Piper. resigned Thurday ( 12 March 09).
We gather an internal email was sent around to staff last Thursday informing them of the changes.
As per usual we haven’t seen any press release on the subject from Lexis Nexis. We will contact them this week for a statement.
Piper took over from Tony Kinnear (now CEO at Thomsons Legal Australia) back in 2002 so his leaving may well just be natural attrition.
One of our sources has informed us though… that Piper’s boss was recently over from the US and wasn’t that impressed by his modus operandi.
As far as House of Butter is aware. Piper’s departure is the first LN CEO to leave their position since the global downturn kicked into action late last year.
So .. a number of questions for LN in Australia. Will they replace Piper with an internal appointment from the Australian office or will they be sending in the calvary from the States.
With Australia’s experience of US CEO’s .. Think Westpac , think Telstra. We would hope that LN find somebody Australian with an overall understanding of the Australian legal market rather than a U.S. import who can only talk about Q1, Q2, Q3 & Q4 figures. Australian law firms are notoriously hard to sell to and in this market it’s going to take a little more than aggressive sales techniques to keep revenue on the up.
