Philippine Law School Student Dies After Fraternity Hazing

A very sad story reported by London’s Roll on Friday today ……

They write…

A law student at a Manila university has been found dead after a suspected fraternity hazing ritual gone wrong.

Horacio Castillo III, a first year law student at the University of Santo Tomas, had texted his mother at 9pm on Saturday that he had arrived for a so-called “welcoming” from his brothers-to-be at the Aegis Juris fraternity. He told her he would return home the following day, but he never arrived.

On Sunday his parents received an anonymous text message that Castillo was at a city hospital, where he had been taken by a pedestrian who had found his body. He was declared dead on arrival.

Castillo was, according to his father, covered in bruises, cigarette burns and candle wax. He said his son had died from a heart attack as a result of his injuries after going through “extreme pain and suffering“. In a statement delivered by the family’s lawyer, they said Castillo was “clearly killed by criminals from the Aegis Juris fraternity in a blatant act of hazing”, and that, “We are outraged that barbaric and criminal acts continue to be performed in the false name of brotherhood”.
