Pakistan: Two cops booked for ‘torture’ of lawyer

The Cantonment police registered a case against a sub-inspector (SI) and an Elite Force assistant sub-inspector (ASI) for allegedly torturing a lawyer and two others, implicating them in a case and then freeing them after accepting Rs60,000 bribe.

Police SI Muhammad Aslam and Elite Force ASI Mugheera were booked after thedistrict bar association office-bearers’ protest and strike the other day in protest against the alleged torture and bribery by police officials.

The bar had also announced banning the entry of police officials into the district courts and bar room. The police so far did not confirm the arrest of the two officials.

According to police spokesperson, the police had earlier registered FIR No 610/24 under sections 353 and 186 of PPC against a lawyer, Hamza Ali Qadir Khan, and his two friends for allegedly indulging in car drifting at the Khatm-e-Nubawatt Chowk on Aug 14 during Independence Day celebrations.

He said the suspects had also allegedly attacked the on-duty police officials and tore their uniforms when they attempted to stop them from “hooliganism”.
