PESHAWAR: Senior lawyer and known human rights activist Kamran Arif advocate passed away due to Covid-19 on Friday. He was 55.
He was admitted to a hospital in Islamabad after contracting coronavirus in March. He fought the disease for a month and expired on Friday.
He was laid to rest at his ancestral Jalozai village of Nowshera district. He was the son of retired Col Arif. He left behind a widow.
People from different walks of life, including lawyers and friends, attended his funeral prayers.
Kamran Arif was a senior lawyer and had served as vice-chairperson of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), KP chapter. He had specialised in corporate law, but his major contribution was in the cases pertaining to missing persons and extrajudicial killings.
He was an active human rights activist. He was based in Islamabad and also served as legal advisor of Open Society Foundation.
