Here’s what they say

By joining forces the two groups will be able to work more effectively in encouraging companies to recognise the commercial returns from IP strategy and management. Both organisations focus on the development and sharing of knowledge and best practice in relation to the strategic management of intellectual property and other intangible assets.

Launched in May 2011, INTIPSA (www.intipsa.com) is a membership organisation bringing together professionals working in intellectual property strategy worldwide. It aims to push IP strategy up the business agenda and provide a forum for professionals working in the field, both in-house and in service providers, to share their knowledge and experience and build their careers. Its medium-term aims include the development of a widely-accepted and recognised professional accreditation for IP strategy practitioners; and raising the profile of IP strategy within management education.

Founded in 2008, I3PM (www.i3pm.org) is an association and think-tank dedicated to promoting the field of IP management, addressing both the strategic and the operational process aspects. The group is well represented in Europe and has strong links to leading academics working in this field. It has published a number of articles, papers and reports, most recently (February 2011) on the impact of the global economic crisis on patenting strategies in large corporations.

Under the strategic alliance announced today, INTIPSA and I3PM will share resources, undertake joint planning of projects and events, and develop a joint dialogue with external stakeholders on issues affecting the IP landscape for business. The two organisations are also looking at cross-membership benefits. The two will remain separate organisations but will work closely together towards their common aims in better serving the global IP community.
