USALI is seeking a Communications & Administration Manager for an amazing opportunity to partner with the Executive Director in developing a comprehensive communications strategy. The Manager will maintain USALI social media accounts, expand USALI’s presence on social media platforms, enhance its website and external communications, coordinate online programs, promote activities across multiple platforms, and provide other critical administrative support to a small institute in a large university that is on the frontlines of US-Asia relations. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has gained solid experience in a larger organization and wants to try out their own ideas as a one-person communications department. It is also an opportunity to work with internationally renowned legal scholars and lawyers at the most international law school in the United States. Candidates must have excellent writing and editing skills, be social-media savvy and proficient in web analytics, and have an understanding of and sensitivity to US-Asia relations.

 

Job description: The Communications & Administration Manager is responsible for planning and executing the Institute’s communications strategy and communicating the voice and mission of the Institute. The Manager will work under the direction of the Executive Director and in close coordination with the Faculty Director, faculty advisors, and other Institute staff.

 

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Writing, editing, and designing website content (homepage, news articles, activity and project descriptions, YouTube recordings of webinars, etc.);
  • Keeping the look of the website up-to-date and dynamic;
  • Producing our weekly webinars and promoting them and other activities on various platforms;
  • Producing a weekly e-newsletter;
  • Posting frequent social media updates and using social media to enhance engagement with Institute stakeholders including former visiting scholars, alumni, etc.;
  • Creating attractive, professional layouts for in-house research reports;
  • Managing the Institute’s visiting scholar program application and intake process; working with university offices to bring visiting scholars onboard and welcome them to campus;
  • Providing other administrative support as needed, such as reserving rooms for activities and making travel arrangements for guest speakers.

 

Desired Experience and Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree is required, with a preference for a degree in English, communications, journalism, or public relations;
  • At least 2 years relevant experience;
  • Exceptionally strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills;
  • Strong overall communications skills, including oral and online;
  • Experience running information and promotion campaigns on major social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn; experience using Mailchimp and Hootsuite;
  • Working knowledge of Google Analytics and ability to interpret and report on analytics from multiple platforms;
  • Experience in web and graphic design, including using Squarespace, InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and Premier, and PowerPoint;
  • Basic video-editing skills; photography shooting skills a plus;
  • Strong time-management skills and ability to prioritize tasks;
  • Attention to detail and willingness to admit mistakes;
  • Excellent cross-cultural and interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships within the Institute, with other university departments, and with Institute stakeholders;
  • Native English speaker or equivalent English skills; knowledge of an Asian language is a plus but not required;
  • All candidates must be legally eligible to work in the U.S.

 

Job Location: New York City.

We are located at the NYU School of Law in Wilf Hall, 139 MacDougal Street. We are currently working remotely but from August will be in the office three days a week.
