An attorney reportedly fired from a prominent Long Beach law firm shot two of his senior partners Friday at their Bixby Knolls office, killing one and wounding the other, before killing himself, police and sources said.
Sources identified the dead victim as Major A. Langer, 75, of Rolling Hills, and the wounded partner as Ronald Beck, who ran the day-to-day operations at Perona, Langer, Beck, Serbin, Mendoza and Harrison. The firm acquired the Larry H. Parker law firm years ago and shares the building at 300 E. San Antonio Ave. where the shooting occurred. Langer was described as the senior managing partner of both firms.
The shooter’s name was not immediately known.
A friend of Beck’s said his son drove him to the hospital after the shooting and he was expected to survive.
Police swarmed to the office building about 2:25 p.m. on a report of an active shooter. When they arrived, they found Langer and the gunman dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The shooting was described as a case of workplace violence.
