Ogier becomes first offshore firm to establish Beijing office

Ogier has opened a representative office in Beijing, becoming the first offshore law firm to have a presence in the Chinese capital.

The move comes about a decade after Ogier became the first offshore law firm to enter mainland China, with the launch of an office in Shanghai in 2011. The firm also has an office in Hong Kong SAR.

The Beijing office will be led by Davy Guan, a business development expert in the professional services sector. With more than 15 years of experience in professional services, Guan has participated in several tax and M&A projects involving state-owned enterprises, unicorn companies, and financial institutions. Prior to joining Ogier, he worked at consulting companies EY and Mazar.

In his new role, Guan will be responsible for the BD of the firm’s legal and corporate administration service lines, with a focus on the Northern China market.

Ogier advises on BVI, Cayman Islands, Guernsey, Jersey, and Luxembourg law, with services covering banking and finance, corporate, dispute resolution, investment funds, private wealth, restructuring and bankruptcy, and tax.

In the past year, Ogier has acted as offshore counsel on a number of transactions involving Chinese companies. including Youran Dairy’s Hong Kong IPO, and the privatizations of 51job and New Frontier Health.
