Elizabeth Ward Obituary

Elizabeth (Betty) Ward, 71, of Greensburg, passed away Friday, Aug. 11, 2023, at Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio, after a courageous battle against cancer. She was born May 23, 1952, in Taylor, to Elizabeth (Walsh) and Edward Robbins. After growing up in Avoca, Betty attended Kutztown University, majoring in library science and the University of Pittsburgh, earning a master’s degree in library science. An avid book lover since she was a child, Betty spent her career as a librarian, dutifully serving as the Westmoreland County Law Librarian for 32 years. Betty loved reading historical fiction, watching British period dramas, visiting National Parks, celebrating her Irish heritage and traveling with her daughter, Meghan. She had a quiet demeanor and a warm heart. She was respected by all who knew her. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Edward Robbins; her beloved husband, John Patrick Ward; and sister-in-law, Doreen Ward. She is survived by her daughter, Meghan (Ward) VanCleve and her husband, Rob, of Columbus, Ohio; her sister, Phyllis Jones (Bob), of Pittston; brother, Edward (Debbie), of Fredericksburg, Va.; sisters-in-law, Kathleen Ward and Maryanne Bragg; and brothers-in-law, Jamie Ward (Maggie) and Marty Ward (Cathie); as well as several nieces, nephews and many friends. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, at the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME, 524 N. Main St., Greensburg. A private family service will be held Thursday.
