The New Zealand National Business Review reports…
CLANZ top corporate lawyer announced
After a busy couple of weeks sorting out (NZ) Telecom’s move into 3G market, the company’s inhouse counsel Vanessa Oakley has picked up the LexisNexis Corporate Lawyer of the Year award from CLANZ.
Corporate Lawyer Association of New Zealand (CLANZ) announced its prize winners at a recent event which recognises the country’s best in-house lawyers.
Ms Oakley’s employers describe her as dedicated with a high degree of knowledge about the telecommunications industry, the technology that is relevant to it and the regulatory environment – she has just co-authored a book on EU Communications Law.
Ms Oakley says that she believed it is important to motivate those around her and she was delighted that people she had worked with had felt the need to nominate her for the award.
“The study award will be used for development of my current team,” she adds.
Sarah Carstens, who works for ANZNational, was awarded the Bell Gully Young Corporate Lawyer of the year at the same awards ceremony.
Debra Blackett, who is general counsel and company secretary for ANZ National Financial Banking Group, described her as having an appetite for challenging work and that her productivity rate is “quite frightening”.
