Labor must support gambling card after NCOSS withdraws support for Clubs Grants: Greens

News that NCOSS is calling for the Clubs Grants scheme to be axed because the scheme is seriously flawed should be what Chris Minns needs to announce the Labor party’s support for a cashless gambling card, says Greens MP and gambling harm reduction spokesperson Cate Faehrmann.

“Today’s news that the state’s peak welfare body has withdrawn its support for the Club Grants scheme, which provided crucial endorsement when the scheme was established, should give Chris Minns and Paul Toole what it takes to support a cashless gambling card,” said Cate Faehrmann.

“ClubsNSW likes to hide behind the grants it provides the community as justification for mini-casinos to be operating in every corner of the state.

“The major parties have allowed ClubsNSW to hide behind these community grants for decades, running the line that clubs provide grant funding that keeps local sporting clubs and community organisations afloat.

“It’s extremely significant that NCOSS has dropped its support of the Clubs Grants scheme. I would certainly hope that this provides the cover that Chris Minns has clearly needed to be able to stand up to ClubsNSW and support a cashless gambling card,” said Ms Faehrmann.
