Guy Spooner commented; ?To be appointed to the board of such a highly respected international arbitration centre, particularly with so many well regarded lawyers from around the world, is a great privilege and honour. Choosing to resolve disputes by arbitration can reduce both the risk, and the perception of risk, in many cross- border business transactions and this in itself can help to unlock opportunities and encourage investments around the region. The growth of international arbitration in Singapore reflects the pivotal role that Singapore plays in facilitating business and investment all across Asia.?

Maxwell Chambers is an example of an arbitration facility designed specifically to serve the needs of the international business and legal community and has been well received by those who use it. Similarly, the SIAC has very successfully evolved into a leading forum for dispute resolution by taking an impartial, inclusive and international approach in developing its rules and procedures. This is an exciting time for arbitration in Singapore and for the SIAC and I?m very grateful for the opportunity to participate and hopefully make a contribution to its development.?
