Norton Rose Fulbright is pleased to announce that Anna Gamvros, a leading lawyer in outsourcing, privacy and data protection, has joined as partner in Hong Kong.

Gamvros has more than 14 years’ experience working as a technology and privacy lawyer in Hong Kong and joins from Baker & McKenzie where she has been a partner since 2012. Gamvros has significant experience in IT contracts and outsourcing, privacy and data protection, telecommunications and internet regulatory issues. She is co-author to Internet Law in Hong Kong published by Sweet & Maxwell and is recognised in the Legal 500 and Chambers Asia as a leading individual for her expertise in the area of technology and data protection, in particular for her “extensive IT transactional work” and experience across a number of industries, notably with retail and luxury brands. She is certified by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and is Co-chair of the IAPP KnowledgeNet Chapter in Hong Kong.

Gamvros advises clients from multinationals to local businesses in a broad range of industries, including technology, telecommunication, retail and fashion, travel, financial services, logistics, and pharma/healthcare. She navigates clients through the laws of Asia Pacific to implement e-commerce and privacy compliance projects, draft and negotiate complex contracts, and respond to data breach and cybersecurity issues.  Her privacy and data protection work ranges from assisting with the implementation of information governance frameworks, compliance and transactions to breach notification and management and regulatory investigations.

Phillip John, Head of North Asia, Norton Rose Fulbright, commented:

Anna has in-depth experience of the IT and communications sectors including licensing and technology agreements, outsourcing, privacy and data protection, and telecommunications and Internet regulatory issues. She will be a great addition to the existing team across Asia and strengthen our offering to clients in the region.

At Norton Rose Fulbright, Gamvros will join the global data protection and privacy practice in the technology and innovation group. This group advises a number of the world’s leading corporations throughout the technology, business services, communications, media, entertainment and consumer markets. Her appointment will enable the practice to grow its North Asia technology and innovation business as it focuses on cutting-edge legal issues arising from the growing global reliance on information and critical infrastructure.

Gamvros, a member of the Hong Kong Government Working Group on the Provision and Use of Cloud Services, said:

Companies in Asia face a critical juncture in ensuring they’re complying with changing data protection requirements across multiple jurisdictions, especially in relation to new technologies. This is not only about risk and compliance programmes; it’s about engaging with these issues during the product development process so data protection principles become integral to the way business is conducted. I look forward to joining the team at Norton Rose Fulbright and supporting clients across the Asia region.

Stella Cramer, Head of Technology and Innovation in South East Asia, Norton Rose Fulbright, commented:

Clients in all sectors are under increasing pressure to adopt new technologies and utilize and protect the incredibly valuable data assets that they hold. This shift brings all kinds of high level risks for businesses and cyber security, data protection and security breach is top of mind for the C-suite. Anna will bolster the team and ensure we can meet with growing demand from clients we’re facing in this crucial area across the region.

Gamvros, who was recognized by Chambers Asia in Technology Media & Telecommunications, received a BA and LLB in law and media from the University of Queensland. She is admitted in Hong Kong and Queensland, Australia.
