The firm which in Australia is famed for abandoning the billable hour pricing model, will kick off its Lion City office with four lawyers and plans to bring its newest office to critical mass in the months ahead.

The firm?s founder and chief executive officer, John Knox?who has relocated to the Lion City to oversee the office?believes a presence in Singapore will enable the firm to penetrate lucrative SE Asian markets such as Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, and of course, India.

And in relation to the latter market in particular, Advent is no stranger. In early 2010, the firm signed a collaboration agreement with Indian LPO Pangea3 which enables the latter to export its service to Australia. The two organizations collaborate on the whole spectrum of ‘junior end’ legal work, from contract drafting and revision to compliance and risk management work as well as M&A due diligence, and litigation and IP support. Advent?s billing approach is completely fixed-fee.

The firm?s business model, within and outside of its relationship with Pangea3, has proved immensely successful over the past few years so much so that the firm counts companies such as Macquarie Bank, Merrill Lynch and Cisco as regular clients.???
