Nigeria: Grief as gunmen murder lawyer, client in Anambra

Suspected assassins on Thursday morning unleashed terror in Anambra State, killing a lawyer, Barr Ifeanyi Iloakasi, and his client.

It was gathered that Ifeanyi, the President General of Aguleri community in Anambra East Local Government Area, had just concluded a matter at the High Court II in Ekwulobia and was on his way out of the area before he was ambushed and killed

A trending video shows villagers and road users gathering around the lawyer’s abandoned red vehicle.

A source stated that Ifeanyi and his client were murdered at the Nanka/Agulu boundary in Orumba North Local Government Area.

A voice narrating the incident said the lawyer’s client, who tried to escape, was hunted down and killed by the gunmen.

The voice in the video said, “Two people shot dead right now, between Nanka boundary and Agulu by unknown gunmen, assassins, they also killed his friend who was running; they zoomed off with their motorcycle.”

Already, the police in Anambra State have confirmed the attack, stressing, however, that another victim survived the incident.

Spokesperson of the command, Tochukwu Ikenga, added, “The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, on Thursday, at about 11:30am, led a team of senior officers to the crime scene at Egbebelu village, Nanka, Orumba North Local Government Area, where two persons were gruesomely murdered by yet-to-be-identified armed men operating on a motorcycle.

“Preliminary investigations suggest that the victims were attacked while returning from the court session, having been trailed and double-crossed by the assailants.

“One of the victims survived the attack and is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital.
