The New York City Law Department is now accepting applications for the position of Deputy Law Librarian. The Deputy Law Librarian reports directly to the Chief Librarian and is responsible for assisting with the management of all Library resources and providing services to Law Department attorneys throughout the City. Duties of this position include: • Provide research and reference services to the Law Department, and on occasion to the Mayor’s Office, the City Council, and other New York City agencies. • Perform investigative research using public records and social media platforms. • Assist in the supervision, evaluation and development of the professional and support staff. • Monitors expenditures, reviews and implements collection management policies, and supervises vendor relations. • Maintain online storage of some Library resources, as well as physical storage of historical and other print materials. • Oversee coordination of online research training. • Coordinate organization of Library resources including cataloging and serials check-in. • Provide leadership for all of department’s activities and services include planning, developing and evaluating departmental activities and initiatives. • Maintain accurate research and collection management data, statistics, reports, and policies. |

Minimum Qual Requirements |
|||
Education: B.A. or B.S, and M.L.S.; JD preferred Experience: at least 5 years of law library experience in a supervisory capacity. Skills and Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively with attorneys, professional and administrative staff. Ability to provide a high level of customer service. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, challenging environment. Excellent verbal, written and decision making skills. Ability to use sound judgment in resolving problems, and detail oriented. Job Specific Skills: Ability to act with a high degree of integrity, autonomy and independence, and to be self-motivated and flexible. Ability to supervise staff with diverse skills and educational backgrounds. Knowledge of accounting and budget principles. Technological Skills: Knowledge of legal sources. Proficiency with various research databases including, but not limited to, Lexis, Westlaw, Accurint, CLEAR, and the Internet. Proficiency with applications including Microsoft Outlook, Word, EXCEL and Sharepoint. Proficiency with library software. |
