New Leader elected to global lawyers’ association

Lawyer Hervé Chemouli took over as President of the International Association of Lawyers (UIA) on October 30 at the end of its hybrid congress in Madrid.

Chemouli is a partner, co-founder and co-manager of Chemouli Professions Libérales in Paris.

Established in 1927, UIA represents nearly one million lawyers through its individual and collective members (bars, federations and associations) in more than 110 countries.

It is a global and multi-cultural organisation for the legal profession and its purpose is to promote the core principles of the legal profession and the development of legal science.

Positions

Before becoming UIA President, Hervé Chemouli held institutional positions at the Paris Bar Council (2000-2002) and the French National Bar Council (2003-2005).

Currently, he is an expert for the CNB’s Commission du Statut Professionnel de l’Avocat (SPA) or Commission on the Professional Status of Lawyers.

Hervé Chemouli said he would like to strengthen multiculturalism within the association, which is known for its ability to bring together the two systems of continental and common law.

The congress of the association will be held from October 26-30, 2022, in Dakar, Senegal.
