The Creighton University School of Law received its largest donation ever in September.
The $9.7 million donation came from the estate of Creighton Law School alumnus James Menehan. Menehan was a long-time donor until he passed away in October of 2023.
“I’ve talked with our Provost about the three areas that I’m looking for: scholarships, looking for program support and potentially physical upgrades to the building,” said Joshua Fershée, Dean of the Creighton University School of Law. “I can say that whatever we spend it on, it will be to improve the student learning experience.”
Fershée said possible uses for the money include bar exam prep programs, legal clinics and scholarships for students who may not normally be able to afford tuition at Creighton’s law school.
“I mean it really is a remarkable gift for somebody to have had such an experience here that his wish was to make sure that he was giving back to an institution, from what I understand, he thought gave him a lot,” Fershée said. “And so it is a testament to the connection that people maintain with this law school.”
While plans are in the works, it’s yet to be determined how the donation will be used.
