Most expensive law schools in the USA

Here is the newest list from U.S. News & World Report of the 10 most expensive law schools in the country. In putting this list together, 191 ranked law schools across the country contributed data for the average tuition and fees for out-of-state students during the 2020-2021 school year, which lands at $47,300. Not a bad average, but with only the top ten, that number jumps drastically up to $69,600.

As you might expect, four of the 10 are Ivy League schools, and all 10 are ranked in the top 20 best law schools. With no further ado:

Columbia University (NY) – $74,995
New York University – $71,304
Cornell University (NY) – $70,274
University of Chicago – $69,975
University of Southern California (Gould) – $68,828
Northwestern University (Pritzker) (IL) – $68,800
University of Virginia – $68,500
University of Pennsylvania (Carey) – $68,130
Yale University (CT) – $68,117
University of Michigan—Ann Arbor – $67,198

To put that in perspective, the Northern Illinois University College of Law had an in-state (and out-of-state, actually) tuition of only $22,000. Maybe give old DeKalb, Ill. a look-see and find out if it’s your speed!
