Morrison & Foerster LLP, an Am Law 50 law firm with 16 offices worldwide, has an opening for a Director of Research Services & Knowledge Management in our San Francisco or New York office.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a dynamic visionary leader to head a strong research team and build a best in class knowledge management function for the firm. We want an innovator who is willing to try new approaches and pilot new technologies. We also want someone who is effective at change management and building relationships across the firm.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

To provide vision, direction, and leadership to ensure that the Research Services and Knowledge Management function aligns with and supports the Firm’s strategic, financial and operational goals.

1.Lead and direct strategies and operations for the mission critical firmwide Research Services and Knowledge Management teams, including providing research to enable attorneys to efficiently serve clients, and to enable business development teams to effectively target and grow relationships.

2.Responsible for assessment of Firm needs and development of the Knowledge Management strategy and roadmap.

3.Responsible for prioritizing and rolling out attorney productivity and workflow initiatives.

4.Lead recruitment processes for Knowledge Management function to build the skill sets needed to execute on the strategy.

5.Ensure that the Firm has the appropriate complement of research tools, both online and in print.

6.Direct strategies to promote effective use of department services by making resources easily accessible and by providing training across offices and departments.

7.Execute budget and cost containment strategies, contract negotiations, and vendor relations.

8.Establish best practices and implement new strategies for providing client-billable and business development research and information services to the Firm at a level commensurate with or superior to peer firms.

9.Evaluate and provide best in class productivity tools to leverage the knowledge of the Firm and to provide attorneys with opportunities to become more efficient in serving clients.

10.Provide technology and tools to enable our clients to work more efficiently and ensure compliance with laws.

11.Recruit, manage, and develop team members.

12.Delight internal stakeholders and clients.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in Research Services and Knowledge Management, solid leadership experience, and an innovative approach to department management and technology.
